Gaylord Corson was in a Car-Train accident on Tuesday, January 24, 1922 at age
16. Gaylord was driving but did not see the train coming at the East Paris crossing.
The car collided with a Pere Marquette passenger train and Gaylord and Archie
were carried more than 1,200 feet in the car on the pilot of the engine after the
crash. His Cousin, Archie Heintzelman age 24 who was a passenger in the car
Gaylord was driving, was killed in the accident. He received a skull fracture and he
died a few hours after the accident at Blodgett Hospital without regaining
consciousness. Gaylord was uninjured except for a slight cut over the right eye.
Archie Heintzelman was survived by his widow, daughter Mabel May, and parents
(Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Heintzelman of Cascade Township).
When he was younger, Gaylord liked to play the drums.
Gaylord Corson attended Cascade 12 Frac. School in Kent Co., MI from 1911 to
1923.
