STATENDAM 1898The STATENDAM was built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast in 1898 for the Holland America Line . She was a 10,491 gross ton ship, length 515.3ft x beam 59.8ft, one funnel, two masts, twin screw and a speed of 14 knots. Accommodation was provided for 200-1st, 175-2nd and 2,000-3rd class passengers. Launched on 7th May 1898, she sailed from Rotterdam on her maiden voyage to New York on 24th August 1898. She stayed on this service until her last voyage commenced on 22nd January 1910, after which she was sold to the Allan Line and renamed SCOTIAN.

I have found the following:

Before your greatgrandparents Sieger Bouwes van der Laan and Martha Lubberts
de Vries were travelled to the USA she lived in Heerenveen on the adress:
Heerenveen 175. That adress have now an other name: Dracht 102-106. Sieger
Bouwes was a butcher and he has there a butchersshop. Als his parant. Martha
lived also in the same street before she married. After the marriage she
lives both there seven years. Perhaps on that moment she has gone to the
USA. The official birthday of Sieger Bouwes is: 29 august 1847.

A cousin of us (Coby van der Laan) is alderman in Heerenveen and she give
me the information. I can get also from her a copy of the marriage
certificate of Sieger en Martha. We try now to get a digital copy. If thast
succeeded than I sen dit to you.
